Founded by the de Vere family in the 12th century and situated within 160 acres of private parkland and lakes, Hedingham Castle is the best-kept Norman Keep in the country and the perfect country retreat for a special occasion or relaxing getaway with friends and family.
The estate remains privately owned by the Lindsay family, direct descendants of the de Veres and, alongside the Castle, features a beautiful 18th century Georgian Country House and two charming cottages, all in a magnificent setting, sleeping a total of 35 guests. If you require additional accommodation, there are acres of grounds in which we can set up a bespoke glamping village for you.

The Georgian House
An impressive 17th century mansion built by Sir William Ashhurst, the Georgian House sits proudly at the heart of the estate with commanding views over the lawns and lakes.
Sleeping 8-10 across five en-suite bedrooms, and with a selection of interesting and unique reception and entertaining rooms, the Georgian House is the perfect country retreat.
Wake up in one of the luxurious bedrooms to the peaceful sound of birdsong, take a dip in the lake and explore the vast and stunning gardens and woodland.
This property is full staffed and serviced with an attentive team to make your stay completely bespoke and memorable.
The Castle
Hedingham Castle is the best kept Norman Keep in the country and features three large and unique entertaining spaces and a one-of-a-kind bedroom which was completed in 2023: The Royal Chamber, the only luxurious bedroom inside a Norman Castle in the country.
The Royal Chamber has been cleverly designed to be inkeeping with the medieval asthestic of the Castle whilst incorporating modern features for the ultimate comfort of guests. The super king four-poster bed includes an incredibly comfy mattress and luxurious 400-thread count bedding along with handmade drapes. There is a bath tub big enough for two as well as an amenities cupboard with a fridge and tea making facilities.
The views from The Royal Chamber are sensational - not only are you on the very top floor of the Castle, but the Castle is situated in a commanding position atop a hill, allowing you to literally see for miles.
On the lower floors within the Castle, you'll find the magnificent Banqueting Hall with its double height archway. This space is perfect for banquets and fine dining. Beneath that is the Garrison Floor which has its own bar, comfy alcove seating and toilets, the perfect dancing space - it even has disco lighting ready to go.
On the ground floor is the atmospheric Tapestry Room, an enchanting and versatile space which can lend itself equally to an evening soiree, yoga class or an intimate gig.
This property is available for hire as the Royal Chamber on a Bed & Breakfast basis or fully staffed and serviced alongside the Georgian House.
Please note: all floors throughout the Castle are reached only via the spiral staircase. As such, only the Tapestry Room is accessible for wheelchairs and prams.
The Cottages & Grounds
These beautifully appointed self-catering homes are set within the magnificent estate and just a stone's throw from the Castle.
Both the Medieval Lodge and Garden Cottage are a haven for relaxing and make the perfect country getaway. The homes are ideal for spending quality time with family and friends; snuggle up in front of the fire, stretch your legs on a beautiful walk, enjoy a BBQ on the terrace and soak up the heritage of the estate.
The Medieval Lodge sleeps 17 across 8 bedrooms.
The Garden Lodge sleeps up to 4 across 3 bedrooms.
The vast acreage of gardens, parkland, lakes and ancient woodland that make up the estate is a blank canvas of stunning countryside. If you have a larger party that requires additional accommodation, we can create your very own glamping village totally bespoke to you.
