The Castle’s winter gardens are possibly the most romantic in the East of England, with at least 13 varieties of snowdrops covering the steep slopes of the motte and bailey and setting off the trees and lakes in front of the Georgian Mansion House. The Cafe in the Keep will be open for the sale of mulled wine and other refreshments. Lavenham Falconry will be inside and out with a selection of their birds of prey, and Graeme the Medieval Archer will be in the Banqueting Hall with a selection of his fearsome weapons.

The Medieval Siege Society returns to give battle before the ancient castle of the Earls of Oxford! After the Arming of the Knights there’s a set piece battle, skirmishes and a working trebuchet! In amongst the bustle of the camp – a unique view of life in the high medieval period – you’ll be able to try your hand at Archery, get close to some Birds of Prey, dance round a Maypole and ride a donkey! The Dragons of Wye-Ten Puppet theatre will be putting on shows and joining in – hunt for the Dragons Egg! Laugh and groan at the Jester and his Wife, enjoy the period Musician and through a ball at a Coconut! There will be craft stalls and traders, and lots of food stalls! The Keep will be open to explore, with guided tours available – come early and enjoy a full day, packed with spectacle and fun!

In custom-made suits of authentic solid steel armour, with an impact speed of over 40mph in a Tournament as close to the real thing as you will ever experience! Watch them arm! Listen to one of the best commentators around as he explains the finer points of medieval chivalry! Thrill as they do battle! And around them, all the bustle and excitement of a medieval fair, with Archery you can test your skill at, the irrepressible Jonathan de Hadleigh and his Wife, Jesters to the Castle, the Medieval Archer, Musicians, the Maypole and the Birds of Prey! explore the Keep with a guided tour! With craft stalls, a variety of food vendors, Donkey Rides, Face Painting and the Castle Bar, it’s a full day of excitement, involvement and stunning spectacle!

With a foot tapping Big Band playing live throughout the day, over 50 stalls of all descriptions, Lindy Hoppers, hair styling and a host of classic cars – a triumph of style and glamour, all set on the magical lawn in front of the Castle!

to commemorate 800 years since the sealing of the Magna Carta, and the close involvement of Robert de Vere, third Earl of Oxford and Lord of Hedingham Castle with the rebel Barons, we will be staging a spectacular day full of history, rebellion and battles! Knights on horseback, close quarter fighting, excommunications! Amongst all the action, the inner bailey surrounding the castle will be a medieval camp-site giving an insight into the lives of ordinary people, traders and craftsmen. Food stalls aplenty! Fascinating Guided Tours of the Norman Keep! and Riotous Assembly provide a musical documentary! History Happening!
