Because the snowdrops round the valley walk surrounding the castle are still at their best, we will be open this coming Sunday to give everyone interested a final chance to see them this year. Tickets on sale on the gate only, dogs on leads welcome, and the Cafe will be open for the sale of hot soup, mulled wine, cakes and other light snacks.

Surrounding it all will be a bustling arena full of craft stalls, a range of food and a host of entertainment! The Norfolk Longbowmen will be demonstrating the art of Archery – have a go! Get close to the Birds of Prey with the fabulous Coda Falconry and watch a thrilling flying display! Comedy Grave Diggers! Easter Trail! Musicians, Donkey Rides, a Maypole, Living History, Tours of the Castle and Coconut Shies provide constant entertainment throughout the day! Something for all the family in a great day out!
The Medieval Siege Society make a very welcome return to Hedingham with armed men, archers, siege engines, living history camps and bloodthirsty mayhem! In amongst the bustle you’ll be able to try your hand at archery, watch a fascinating and exhilarating falconry display from Coda, dance round a maypole and ride a donkey! The Jester will jest, and there’ll be music from Blondel, with craft stalls, real ale and food. The Keep will be open, with guided tours available, and there’s something going on all day!
Returning for its fifth year at Hedingham, and bigger and more stylish than ever! A Big Band, Jive Dancing, classic cars, hairstyling and over 50 stalls with a cornucopia of vintage wonderfulness, its a simply fabulous day out!

Historia Normannis, a 12th century re-enactment society, are staging a triathlon challenge with teams of knights battling for supremacy! Picture medieval murderball with teams trying to knock the crests from opponents’ helmets! The teams will route march and even run a 5km course in full chain mail, and then compete in an archery competition! All in aid of Colchester Samaritans! Surrounding the castle will be a living history camp with an insight into the lives not only of knights and noblemen, but also ordinary people, and how they got through their days. There’ll be falconry displays, and you’ll be able to have a go at archery, and even fire a trebuchet! And of course, a full on, no holds barred battle to round things off nicely! It’s a great day out for all the family!
