2013 Event. See our website for 2017 events. The real Medieval Tourney in the C16th may have lasted 3-4 days. The Knights of Royal England pick out the highlights, the action bits, the crashes, the spectacle of the wonderful horses at full gallop and all the excitement and drama of the original without losing any of its pomp and pageantry.
During each day of our Tourney we condense all this into two action packed 45 minute tournaments within seven full hours of action and colour, with masses of entertainment for all the family. Birds of Prey demonstrations with Lavenham Falconry! Tudor Ladies! Try your skill with a traditional English Longbow under the guidance of the Norfolk Longbowmen by the Tudor Bridge, dance around the Maypole and try to win a coconut! Watch, laugh and listen as the Colchester Waits wander through the crowds playing traditional music on genuine instruments while trying to avoid Jonathan de Hadleigh, official Jester to the Castle and rat catcher to the nobility who will be causing trouble wherever he goes. This time, Jonathan is accompanied by his wife, and, if they can find it, their baby!
Graeme the Medieval Archer will be demonstrating his armour piercing weapons on the Banqueting Floor and for the first time at Hedingham we’ve got live demonstrations of wood carving. With a chainsaw! There’s Face Painting, craft stalls and great food with our regular caterers and of course the wenches at the Castle Bar will be cheerfully serving our finest ales and wine! 10% off for online bookings!
Tickets at all prices available at the gate, opening at 10am.
Please note that dogs are not allowed to the joust because of the birds of prey and horses.
