The Globe Theatre returns to Hedingham Castle with a raw, thrillingly elemental production of this inexhaustible play, widely acclaimed in 2011 both on tour and at the Globe.

Learning of the king his father’s death, Hamlet comes home to find his uncle married to his mother and installed on the Danish throne. At night, the ghost of the old king demands that Hamlet avenge his ‘foul and most unnatural murder’.

Encompassing political intrigue and sexual obsession, philosophical reflection and violent actions, tragic depth and wild humour, Hamlet is Shakespeare’s ‘poem unlimited’, a colossus in the story of the English language and the fullest expression of Shakespeare’s genius.

Performed by a handful of players on an Elizabethan-inspired stage and lasting only two-and-a-half hours.

Bank Holiday Battle – Hedingham Castle 6th & 7th May

Batten down the hatches for a battle of the bravest! The best family day out for the May Day bank holiday! The Medieval Siege Society will be camped out all weekend defending the grounds of Hedingham.
Also May Pole Dancing, Lavenham Falconry’s birds of prey, Have a go archery and various food and craft stalls.

For two days, Hedingham Castle, near Halstead, will open its gates and welcome visitors back to the age of chivalry, when daring knights fought for their ladies and their honour and when the clash of steel filled the air and the battlement rang with the cheers of supporters. Alongside the battles will be a medieval festival where the poorer folk of the area will be going about their work. It’s an opportunity for visitors to steep themselves in the sights, sounds and smells of a time when life was very different to today.

The eggs are ready to be hidden around the castle, the horses are being groomed and the knights are sharpening their swords… come along to the best Easter Family fun this weekend!

So excited, the grounds are being prepared for next weeks jousting event..Pirate Pete will be onsite with the famous inflatable pirate ship and inflatable jousting. Ice cream Phil will be on hand for ice cream treats for the children, and there will be many stalls to browse inbetween the arena events.
Lavenham Falconry are preparing the birds of prey for their flyin g displays, and The Knights of Arkely are sharpening there tools ready for the first Jousting experience of 2012!
